When Was Neptune Last in Pisces?
Updated October 5, 2026
As of October 2026, the last time was 2011–26: Neptune first entered Pisces on 4 April 2011 and, because retrograde motion carried it back and forth across the sign's boundary, entered it three times in all before leaving for good on 26 January 2026. Next: Neptune first enters Pisces on 19 March 2175; retrograde motion carries it back and forth across the sign's boundary, so it enters four times in all and leaves for good on 1 January 2190.
Each bar runs from first entry to final exit. Stretches marked with a neighbouring sign are times it crossed back over the boundary before returning.

Dates are in UTC and the Gregorian calendar; in a time zone far from Greenwich an ingress can fall on the neighbouring calendar day. Dates before 14 September 1752 are Gregorian too, though Britain and its colonies still used the Julian calendar, 10 days behind until 11 March 1700 and 11 days behind after, and began the year on 25 March.

Neptune in Pisces: context
Neptune is a modern discovery, unknown to Hellenistic astrology, in whose scheme Pisces is Jupiter's house and Venus's exaltation (Ptolemy, Tetrabiblos I.17, I.19). Johann Galle and Heinrich d'Arrest found it at the Berlin Observatory on the night of 23–24 September 1846, less than a degree from the position Urbain Le Verrier had predicted from irregularities in Uranus's motion. It was then at about 26° Aquarius, so the 1847–62 pass was its first through Pisces since discovery. On 11 July 2011, early in the 2011–26 pass, Neptune completed its first orbit since discovery.
Richard Tarnas links the decades around the 1846 discovery, not the sign, to "the rapid spread of spiritualism throughout the world beginning in the late 1840s", to utopian social ideologies and to photography.

How Neptune moves through the zodiac
Across 1600–2600, Neptune spent about 13 years to 14 years in a sign on each pass, not counting retrograde dips out of it, and it returned to the same sign about every 164 years. 100% of passes included at least one retrograde dip back over a sign boundary.
