As of October 2026, Uranus is in Gemini. Uranus first entered Gemini on 7 July 2025; because retrograde motion carries it back and forth across the sign's boundary, it enters three times in this pass and leaves for good on 22 May 2033. It moves on into Cancer on 3 August 2032, and retrograde motion brings it back on 12 December 2032. Before that, Uranus first entered Gemini on 7 August 1941 and, because retrograde motion carried it back and forth across the sign's boundary, entered it three times in all before leaving for good on 10 June 1949. After this pass, Uranus returns to Gemini on 15 June 2109.

Each bar runs from first entry to final exit. Stretches marked with a neighbouring sign are times it crossed back over the boundary before returning. The outlined stretch is under way now.

Dates are in UTC and the Gregorian calendar; in a time zone far from Greenwich an ingress can fall on the neighbouring calendar day. Dates before 14 September 1752 are Gregorian too, though Britain and its colonies still used the Julian calendar, 10 days behind until 11 March 1700 and 11 days behind after, and began the year on 25 March.

Uranus in Gemini: context

Uranus was the first planet found with a telescope, and Hellenistic astrology knew nothing of it. William Herschel saw it from his garden in Bath on 13 March 1781, near the star Zeta Tauri. That is in the constellation Taurus, but in the tropical zodiac used here the planet was at about 24° Gemini. Herschel named it Georgium Sidus after George III; the name Uranus was Johann Bode's proposal.

In Prometheus the Awakener (1995) and Cosmos and Psyche (2006), Richard Tarnas argues that the planet's astrological character fits Prometheus better than the sky god. He points to the era of its discovery: the American and French Revolutions, the Industrial Revolution and early Romanticism. This pass brings Uranus back to its discovery degree, 24°27′ Gemini, on 8 July 2031, 4 January 2032 and 24 April 2032 (UTC), for the first time since 1947–48.

How Uranus moves through the zodiac

Across 1600–2400, Uranus spent about 6.3 years to 7.8 years in a sign on each pass, not counting retrograde dips out of it, and it returned to the same sign about every 84 years. 100% of passes included at least one retrograde dip back over a sign boundary.
