When Was Chiron Last in Aries?
Updated October 5, 2026
As of October 2026, Chiron is in Aries. Chiron first entered Aries on 17 April 2018; because retrograde motion carries it back and forth across the sign's boundary, it enters three times in this pass and leaves for good on 14 April 2027. Before that, Chiron first entered Aries on 1 April 1968 and, because retrograde motion carried it back and forth across the sign's boundary, entered it three times in all before leaving for good on 28 March 1977. After this pass, Chiron returns to Aries on 3 May 2068.
Each bar runs from first entry to final exit. Stretches marked with a neighbouring sign are times it crossed back over the boundary before returning. The outlined stretch is under way now.

Chiron in Aries: context
Chiron is a modern body, discovered in 1977 and unknown to Hellenistic astrology. Its orbit is eccentric. NASA JPL gives a closest approach to the Sun of 8.5 AU, inside Saturn's orbit, and a farthest of 18.9 AU, near Uranus's, with one circuit taking about 50.7 years. That is why its time in a sign varies so much.
Aries is where Chiron lingers longest. In each pass from 1820 to 2078 it spent 8.0 to 8.7 years in Aries, against 1.5 to 2.0 years in Virgo or Libra. Its previous Aries pass ended in March 1977, nearly seven months before the discovery plates were taken. The "wounded healer" reading astrologers use came afterwards, for example in Melanie Reinhart's Chiron and the Healing Journey (1989).

How Chiron moves through the zodiac
Across 1800–2100, Chiron spent about 1.6 years to 8.3 years in a sign on each pass, not counting retrograde dips out of it, and it returned to the same sign about every 50 years. 85% of passes included at least one retrograde dip back over a sign boundary.

How these dates were found
With Horoskopos's sky search: Chiron's geocentric, apparent, tropical ecliptic longitude, computed with the open-source Astronomy Engine library, with each sign boundary found to the minute. Sample ingresses agree with NASA JPL's Horizons ephemeris to within about two and a half hours. Chiron is computed from orbital elements bundled for 1800–2100, so its dates are limited to that span.
