As of October 2026, Saturn is in Aries. Saturn first entered Aries on 25 May 2025; because retrograde motion carries it back and forth across the sign's boundary, it enters twice in this pass and leaves for good on 13 April 2028. Before that, Saturn first entered Aries on 7 April 1996 and, because retrograde motion carried it back and forth across the sign's boundary, entered it twice in all before leaving for good on 1 March 1999. After this pass, Saturn returns to Aries on 22 March 2055.

Saturn in Aries: context
In traditional astrology Saturn in Aries is in its fall, which Ptolemy and Valens call its depression. Ptolemy's reasoning is a symmetry with the Sun: the Sun is exalted in Aries, where the days lengthen and heat increases, so cold Saturn takes the opposite arrangement, exalted in Libra and depressed in Aries (Tetrabiblos I.19). Dorotheus and Valens put the exact points at 21° Libra and 21° Aries (Carmen Astrologicum I.2; Anthology III.4). Aries is also the house of Mars, the other malefic.
Aries is not wholly foreign to Saturn. Dorotheus names it the third lord of the fire triplicity, after the Sun and Jupiter (Carmen I.1), and the Egyptian bounds, or terms, give it the last five degrees of the sign (Tetrabiblos I.20; Anthology I.3). In the current pass Saturn turns direct at 21°01′ Aries on 24 December 2027 (UTC), almost exactly on its depression degree.
