Jupiter in Cancer: context
Jupiter in Cancer is exalted. Ptolemy explains that Jupiter, "which produces the fecund north winds", reaches farthest north in Cancer. So that sign is its exaltation and the opposite sign, Capricorn, its depression (Tetrabiblos I.19). Dorotheus and Valens put the exact degree at 15° Cancer (Carmen Astrologicum I.2; Anthology III.4). Cancer is the Moon's house (Tetrabiblos I.17), so the Moon is Jupiter's host there.
Dorotheus says a planet in its house, triplicity or exaltation is benefic, "so that what it indicates of good is strong, increasing" (Carmen I.6). In the 2025–26 pass Jupiter turned retrograde at 25°09′ Cancer on 11 November 2025 and direct at 15°05′ Cancer on 11 March 2026 (UTC), a few arcminutes past its exaltation degree.
